Miglia

For ordinary tourists, Cyprus is undoubtedly associated with a bustling holiday in Ayia Napa - the main youth resort of the island.

For ordinary tourists, Cyprus, of course, is associated with a bustling holiday in Ayia Napa - the main youth resort of the island; with the antique sights of Paphos - the ancient capital of Cyprus; with the stories of divided Nicosia and abandoned Famagusta; with an expensive holiday in the growing resort of Limassol. But, if you are attracted by a quiet outdoor recreation, the opportunity to look deep into the history of the island, into the life of its ordinary inhabitants, then it will be interesting for you to travel around the numerous villages of Cyprus.

The village of Miglia can be visited by traveling along the highway between Paphos and Polis. It is a small settlement with a population of about 90 people. Typical Cypriot stone houses with cozy courtyards, small but lush green fruit trees, gardens, and beautiful views of the valley - this place is perfect for those who want to unwind, take a break from the hustle and bustle. The village is home to birdwatching routes, and from here you can also go cycling and hiking in the beautiful countryside.

The main attraction of the village can be considered the nearby small church of the holy unmercenaries. It is located on the way to the luxurious Ayii Anargyri Spa Hotel. The church contains icons of Saints Damian and Kozma. According to the stories of local residents, the church once belonged to brothers-healers. They treated people free of charge, thereby giving the name of the church "Anargigi" or "silversmith". The nearby villages also remember this story of brothers, whom many believers considered saints. The facade of the church has been modernized several times. From the Middle Ages to the present day, only the thick walls of this ancient building have survived in their original form. Now weddings and other ceremonies are held here.

Another attraction of the village is the mill, which is more than 200 years old. This water structure is called Kuyuka. Fresh bread is still baked here, honey, carob syrup, olive oils, tea and coffee are sold. Here you can also taste various national dishes. Next to the mill is the Bread, Wine and Olive Oil Museum. The village of Miglia also boasts one of the oldest bridges, the Skarfos Bridge, built in 1618.

The village of Miglia is also famous for its hydrogen sulfide springs. They were discovered in the 19th century. Now on the site of one of the monasteries there is a SPA complex, where you can heal joints, cardiovascular systems, skin, thanks to the beneficial effects of healing underground springs.
