Greek Cypriots are a very cheerful and hospitable people. This finds expression in noisy celebrations and feasts in which large families, including distant relatives, take part, during which all kinds of contests and competitions are held. And, of course, not a single meal in Cyprus is complete without musical accompaniment. The national dance sirtaki is the highlight of any noisy holiday on the island.
The distinctive features of this people can be safely called cheerfulness and temperament, which are perfectly combined with business acumen and organization. It is worth noting that in Cyprus, very serious attention is paid to education issues, therefore Cypriots are exclusively and, most often, very smart and educated people. Almost two thirds of students study in the UK, USA or Greece. At the same time, Cyprus is one of the leading countries in terms of the number of citizens who have received higher education, per 1,000 people.
Probably the entrepreneurial spirit of the Cypriots is reflected in the economic development of the country. Even serious crises, such as, for example, the recent 2008-2009, do not greatly affect the level of security and the lives of the inhabitants of the island. It is important to note that there are almost no beggars in Cyprus and that any citizen who really needs it will receive assistance from the state. At the same time, the mentality of the Cypriots is such that in the same establishments, for example, restaurants, you can meet a wide variety of segments of the population. The minimum wage in Cyprus is usually at least 700 euros. Working men can earn in the region of 2,000 euros, which allows them to support their families and not work for women. The latter are engaged in housekeeping.
For Cypriots, living in your own home is the norm. As a rule, this is just a separate house or even a villa with a pool. Also, almost every family has at least one car, and this despite the fact that in Cyprus they are very sensitive to environmental issues. Cypriots work 40 hours a week with a three-hour lunch break, which is necessary in the summer due to high temperatures.
