The largest mountain range of Cyprus - Troodos - is a symbiosis of the beautiful nature of this part of the island and numerous mountain villages nestling in the valleys and foothills. One of the largest villages in Cyprus is Kyperounta. This large settlement is located in the Petsilia region at an altitude of over 1200 meters above sea level. Its population is currently 1,500 inhabitants.

The village owes its current name to the Cyperus Rotundus plant, although the history of the village dates back to the times of the Byzantine Empire. The climate of this area is strikingly different from season to season. Here, winters are mild, snow falls, and in the spring the flowering of numerous fruit trees begins. In the summer, it is a great place to hide from the heat in the green of the forests, and in the fall, harvesting begins in Kyperount.

The main activity of local residents is agriculture. Apple, pear, plum, peach, cherry, apricot grow in the village and the surrounding area, and, of course, the village is famous for its traditions in the field of viticulture and winemaking. Vineyards in Kyperount are considered the highest in Europe. Some plantations are located at an altitude of more than 1400 meters above sea level. Here they collect chardonnay and xynisteri, cabernet and shiraz. Kyperunta boasts that almost a third of the total volume of apples and pears in Cyprus is harvested here. And in October, an apple festival is held here.

The cultural traditions of the village are passed down from generation to generation. In Kyperount there is a museum of the history of rural life, which displays clothes and utensils that were used in different eras in Cyprus, as well as stuffed representatives of the flora and fauna of these places. The Museum of the struggle for independence will be of interest to the guests of the village. It is located in the house where the national hero of Cyprus Christodoulos Kannaoru lived. He was a direct participant in the struggle against British colonialism in the 50s of the last century.

The architectural sights of Kyperuntu are represented by churches and chapels. Since the reign of Byzantium on the island, several churches have survived in the village: Agia Marina, Our Lady, St. Arsenius of Cappadocia, the Assumption, as well as a number of chapels. The oldest church in the village is the Chapel of the Holy Cross. It was founded in the 16th century. Since 1996 it has been functioning as a museum where frescoes are kept. Also on its territory is a chic botanical garden.
