Troodos - the heart of tourist Cyprus

For many, this will seem surprising, but it is the mountainous part of Cyprus that has been considered a place for an elite vacation on the island since ancient times.

For many, this will seem surprising, but it is the mountainous part of Cyprus that has been considered a place for an elite vacation on the island since ancient times. This is partly due to its location, which determines the climate of this area of the island - it is not so hot here even on sultry summer days, when those who are relaxing on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea try to hide from the scorching sun. On the other hand, today in the Troodos mountains there are delightful conditions for recreation, which will allow tourists not to notice the absence of the sea, as one of the most important attributes of rest on the island.

Since the time of British rule, this part of the island has been considered an elite holiday destination for the British. Solitude, comfort, stunning virgin nature - all this helped to win love for Troodos. The village of Kakopetria, the villages of Agros, Pedoulas, Galata, Tabria and many others have retained the flavor of the ancient settlements and are developing year after year in accordance with the requirements of the time for a comfortable rest. For example, the village of Agros is famous for the scenic mountain trail running through it at an altitude of over 1000 meters above sea level. Local people produce rose oils and tinctures, creams and lotions and other rose-scented products here.

The highest mountain in Troodos is Olympus. On its northern side (1530 meters) there is a whole complex of villages, which are notable for the presence here of monuments of Byzantine culture and the Christian religion. As many as 10 churches, the dates of construction of which date back to the 11-17 centuries, located here, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This is a real paradise for pilgrims of Christianity.

Troodos has very interesting and carefully designed hiking trails for tourists. You can go around almost the entire Mount Olympus, admiring the surroundings, travel through pine forests, go to waterfalls, and walk along the Krios Potamos River. Also interesting will be the wine route, for example, from Kolossi to Platres, following which you can visit more than a dozen villages famous for the traditions of winemaking. Indeed, it is the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains that are rich in vineyards that grow at an altitude of more than 1000 meters above sea level.

And, of course, do not forget about the ski resort at an altitude of almost 2000 meters, where, as on the best tracks in Europe, there is everything you need for both beginners and professional ski enthusiasts. From December to March, these heavenly places await you!
