Lofu is one of those places in Cyprus that are definitely worth visiting to see firsthand how the tourism development program helps to restore and develop small towns and villages, to attract travelers and investors to them.

The population of this small village declined sharply after World War II. Many residents moved from here to larger settlements, closer to Limassol. Of course, one of the main factors for them was the opportunity to find a good job. But first, in the late 1980s, the country's authorities began to pay more attention to the construction of new roads, and then modern realities came here - the development of such a tourist destination as agritourism began.

Lofu is located on a hill (about 800 meters above sea level). From here 25 kilometers to Limassol. Currently, a significant part of the old buildings have returned to their former splendor, many houses have been restored according to old plans. Cobbled streets, beautiful stone houses with pine trim ... And gradually people are returning here, and of course, the influx of tourists is growing.

There is a real museum in Lofu with a 200-year-old olive press. In the center of the village, there is the main natural attraction of these places - a large rocky cave, where local shepherds found refuge in ancient times. Lofu also houses the Church of Chrysolophitis. It was built in the 70s of the XIX century, and it is dedicated to the Blessing of the Most Holy Theotokos. In the church, believers can bow to the icon of the Virgin Mary, which is more than 800 years old.

This place is perfect for a secluded getaway. Not all tourists know that such mountain villages are a great alternative to a seaside vacation. Especially on hot days, when the thermometer exceeds +40 degrees. It is no coincidence that every year city dwellers come here, tired of the summer heat and those who once lived here. In Lofu, you should visit Violarisa's cozy tavern - Lofou Traditional Tavern. It has gained popularity since 1192, when the family of owners joined the Cyprus agricultural tourism development program. Since then, this wonderful establishment with a traditional style apartment and a tavern with a fireplace, features black and white photographs reminiscent of bygone times and history.
In Lofu, you can experience traditional crafts, such as baking bread or preparing Cypriot cuisine. This village is also interesting for lovers of long walks in the fresh air.
