One of those places in Cyprus, which is famous for its excellent wines, is the village of Strumbi, located approximately halfway between Paphos and Polis - 17-20 kilometers. According to one of the legends, the village owes its name to the founder Strompoulos, and the second - from the word "strumpolos" meaning "chubby". The implication is that your face will be rounded the first time we see the mountains behind the village.

The village has experienced many ups and downs in its life. The most recent misfortune that befell the local residents was the strongest earthquake for these places, which occurred not far from here in 1953 and almost completely destroyed the old Strumi. But the village was restored and moreover, one of the largest wineries on the island was built here - SODAP - KAMANTERENA.

The population of Strumbi is small - about 500 inhabitants. They all live in two parts of the settlement. In old Pano Strumbi, whose buildings date back to the Middle Ages, you can contemplate the ruins of ancient wineries and a corn mill. The newer part of town, Kato Strumbi, has noticeably wider streets, modern roads lined with fruit trees, and new houses built during the restoration. The village also has its own church of St. George, which was also restored in 1956. It contains an icon dating back to the 15th century.

Every year the village hosts a festival dedicated to Dionysus, the god of winemaking. It originates in 1982. On this day, rivers of wine flow, the village is flooded with guests of Cyprus, competitions, national dances, exhibitions of local handicraft products are held.

Those interested in the traditional Cypriot lifestyle should also visit the neighboring village of Polemi, where the tulip festival is held annually. These flowers came to Cyprus during the Ottoman era, and they took root in the mountainous regions of Troodos. Not so long ago, there were those years when tulips from Cyprus were exported to the Netherlands. On this day, guests of the festival will enjoy traditional Cypriot food, a flower exhibition, a lot of music and dances, and walks through fields planted with flowers. It should be noted that picking flowers in local fields is strictly prohibited by the authorities.

Local food and drinks can be sampled at one of the three Strumby taverns. After lunch you can go fishing on the Evret Dam or play golf on the fields of Tsada village. The convenient location of Strumbi gives you ample opportunity to plan your holiday in these places.
