What is remarkable about a vacation in Cyprus in winter

Cyprus is a great holiday destination almost any time of the year.

Cyprus is a great holiday destination almost any time of the year. And even in January, when it rains from time to time, the winds blow and there is hardly an opportunity to swim in the Mediterranean Sea, rest here is wonderful, since the sun shines almost every day on the island, and almost every month of the year pleases guests of Cyprus with various surprises, among which festivals, celebrations, restaurants, as well as what the inhabitants of the northern countries lack - all kinds of fruits.

The main winter fruits of Cyprus are, of course, citrus fruits, which by the end of December become as ripe and delicious as possible. Prices for these unique natural sweets, of which there are many varieties in Cyprus, are very low in winter. Fruits are sold literally near all shops. Dates, avocados, kiwi and chestnuts are added to citrus fruits in winter.

Citrus fruits will be the most interesting - winter oranges of Jaffa, Valencia and Merlin varieties, which do not often hit the shelves of our country. They differ in appearance. And if Valencia is an early variety, which is already leaving by December, then the other two are sold all winter: juices are made from Jaffa, and merlin is consumed in its pure form.

You will also find the famous Cypriot sweet orange in January. It is known for its high content of vitamin C and potassium, although it contains a lot of seeds. Also in Cyprus for the new year appear Sour Orange (sour orange) or orange, which is used to make liqueurs, jam and marmalade.

In addition to the well-known varieties, there are several hybrids. For example, an orange crossed with tangerine, called mineola. It is a sweet and juicy fruit that is high in folate. Unusual taste: from sweet to spicy-bitter - in the orange Li and similar to it variety Nova. The citrus fruit of the mandora is very useful, which is consumed fresh. Candied fruits, sherbet and marmalade are made from it, as well as various salads. In January, it is fashionable to find sweet lemons, kumquats, papayas and many imported fruits in Cyprus. But in February, you can quite unexpectedly meet winter strawberries. Perhaps she has not yet received as much sun and therefore is not as sweet as in spring, but who refuses to pamper himself with this berry, which fades away as quickly as it appears. The winter months in Cyprus will delight guests from different countries with pomegranates ripened under the local almost year-round sun; bananas, plantations of which can be seen near the main roads of the island, as well as apples and quinces. Also grapes, pears and persimmons come to Cyprus from neighboring Greece and Israel.
