Quite small, but extremely interesting both in terms of resort and research holidays, the island of Cyprus is located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Since ancient times, various civilizations have clashed at sea and on land in the Mediterranean, and the possession of the island, now a state, Cyprus was considered one of the important goals. We will dwell in a little more detail on those sights that have survived to this day, despite the fact that whole centuries have passed since their foundation, and we will plunge into the world of ancient Cyprus.

First of all, interest for connoisseurs of antiquity is the world-famous city of Paphos and its archaeological zone Kato Paphos, located in the lower part of the coast. Even from photographs, you can get some impression of the majesty of the buildings and structures that were built in Cyprus during the times of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. To this day, thanks to the cares of archaeologists and true enthusiasts of their craft, such constructions as the House of Dionysus, the Chamber of Tezius, tombs, catacombs, collections of mosaics of ancient Cyprus have survived almost unchanged. The real splendor is the ancient Greek Odeon - an amphitheater, where various events are still held. The House of Dionysus has a stunning collection of mosaic floors. The house is part of an archaeological ensemble of Greco-Romanesque sculptures and serves as an example of the skill of the sculptors of that time. As you can imagine, the monument itself bears its name in honor of the god Dionysus.

In the immediate vicinity of modern Limassol, there are the ruins of the ancient city of Amathus, where parts of the acropolis, baths and basilicas are preserved. And also of great value are the excavations at the site of the ancient state of Kourion, which was located right on the rocks. The residence of Eustolia and the Theater are the most interesting and best preserved monuments in this city. In the southern part of Cyprus on the Karpas peninsula, you can visit the traditional village of Sirpakhi and contemplate the antique mosaics of Agia Triada. But you can only get here by private transport or taxi.

A rich ancient heritage has been preserved in the territory of Northern Cyprus. The most important of them is the ruins of the ancient city of Salamis, which vie for the right to be considered the most important archaeological site of the island with Ancient Kourion. Traveling along the trails of this city, you can plunge into the history of different periods of the island. Among the ruins of the Gymnasium there are headless Hellenistic statues of heroes and gods, as well as basilicas, an ancient market, baths with an aqueduct and an amphitheater.

The great heritage of our ancestors lives in Cyprus and excites the hearts of people from all over the world!
